S8: E159 Working Out: With or Without the Peloton App

Afternoon Ti Podcast Season 8 Episode 159 Working Out: With or Without the Peloton App You’ve likely seen the hype and wondered why so many people are raving about Peloton.  During the pandemic last year when we were all home teaching, my friend Becky shared about a 90 day trial for the Peloton app.  I’m totally inspired by her so I decided to try out the app for my outdoor runs in particular and was hooked.  It’s now over a year later and I’m still loving the workouts!  New content comes out consistently.  I am finding new ways to make workouts challenging and fun.  I truly love it so much. If you’re interested in trying Peloton out there are many ways to do this.   1 - Get the app.  There’s a teacher discount if you use the app so it’s $9.99 a month .  This price applies to First Responders, Military, and Medical professions as well.  College and University students pay $6.99 for the app.  What you get:  Access to all of the class content online. 2 - Buy a stationary bike or Pelot

S8: E158 Summer Health Series - The Four R's of Summer: Rejuvenate, Renew, Reflect, Redirect

Afternoon Ti Podcast Season 8 Episode 158 Summer Health Series - The Four R's of Summer: Rejuvenate, Renew, Reflect, Redirect For our summer health series so far I’ve focused on sharing some of my summer favorites and parenting ideas for time with your kids ages 0 through middle school.  Today’s episode is all about you.  You just finished what might arguably be the hardest year of teaching you’ve ever had. You were creative, innovative, exhausted, determined, uncertain, experimental, challenged, discouraged, beat down, encouraged, and then it came to an end.  Summer has arrived. My immediate response to the start of summer was the need for rejuvenating and renewing myself.  I wasn’t ready to reflect on the year and am still not at that place yet completely.  Not like I’ve done in the past.  I’ve looked through photos of myself from the year and see the bags under my eyes, the tiredness in my face, and a clear view of myself as someone who wore themselves out trying to keep everyt

S8: E157 Summer Health Series: Parenting in the Middle Years (Elementary-Middle School)

Afternoon Ti Season 8 Episode 157 Summer Health Series: Parenting in the Middle Years (Elementary-Middle School) We’re a few episodes into our summer health series.  In episode 156 I shared tips and ideas for raising your kids during the baby, toddler, and preschool years.  This episode will focus on the elementary and middle school years.  One of the healthiest things we can do in the summers as teachers who also have our own kids is to find ways to interact with our kids doing things that are meaningful to them and to us and make time for rest and play for ourselves and our kids.   I organized these ideas by the age of the children because there are things we are able to do when kids are older that likely aren’t as easy when they’re younger.  Like I said in the last episode, these ideas aren’t meant to pressure you to do things a specific way - hopefully it’s encouraging if anything - and maybe you’ll find an idea or two to try that brings a moment of joy or a new favorite thing!

S8: E156 Summer Health Series: Parenting in the Young Years (0-4 year olds)

Afternoon Ti Season 8 Episode 156 Summer Health Series:  Parenting in the Young Years (0-4 year olds) We’re in the middle of our summer health series and I’ve been spending time as an uber driver for my girls more than ever.   Lots of singing in the car, talks about nothing and everything, and realizing that time is running out with my oldest daughter before she leaves our home in four years.  When I go out for morning runs or walk the dog in my neighborhood I often pass young moms pushing strollers, chasing toddlers in the front yard, or holding their little ones while talking with neighbors.  It feels like it was yesterday for me! The days are long, but the years are short - Gretchen Rubin I’m feeling this phrase so much these days as my oldest moves into high school and my youngest moves into middle school.  No longer do we have any little ones.  No elementary kids or toddler days or baby snuggles.  I have to get those through watching friends’ kids and spending time with my ni
