S2: E66 Sunday Sip: Prayer

Season Two Episode 66 Sunday Sip: Prayer Hello friends and welcome to Sunday Sip on Afternoon Ti.  Each Sunday for the remainder of the year I plan to share a single idea, thought, or meaningful take-away in hopes that you’ll be encouraged and inspired as you prepare to enter the next new week of teaching.  Something I’ve been more intentional about for the past month is my devotional and prayer time each morning.  It had become more of a thing to check off and a daily task than a meaningful time with God. I still learned more about Him, but it had a different feel to it.  It was mundane, usual, and just going through the motions rather than really taking time to listen, share prayer requests and thankfulness. I thought I’d share some of the things I’ve been doing to help rekindle my relationship with God through a shift in my morning routine has given me more desire to spend time with God and more intentional time in making it meaningful.  The fi...

S2: E65 Teacher Advent Countdown Calendar

Season Two Episode 65 Teacher Advent Countdown Calendar You’ve probably seen different advent calendars in stores or online. Most Advent Calendars are dated from December 1-24.  Some have chocolates in each daily box or a lego piece for each day that adds to a small set at the end. Some can be created with cards or envelopes. According to an article from Mental Floss, this tradition began in the mid-1800s when German Protestants made chalk marks on doors or lit candles to count the days leading up to Christmas.  It was then further continued to be brought to others through production of calendars and then Dwight D. Eisenhower was pictured opening an advent calendar with his grandchildren. Advent itself means ‘coming’ and is the anticipation of Jesus’ birth and also of His second coming.  In church services during the four weeks prior to Christmas focus on the themes of Hope, Preparation, Joy and Love.  In anticipation of celebrating all that Jesus has d...

S2: E64 Sunday Sip: Last 30ish Days

Season Two Episode 64 Last 30ish Days Hello friends and welcome to Sunday Sip on Afternoon Ti.  Each Sunday for the remainder of the year I plan to share a single idea, thought, or meaningful take-away in hopes that you’ll be encouraged and inspired as you prepare to enter the next new week of teaching.  We are heading into the final month of the year.  I’m very excited about this for many reasons. One, I love December.  I love celebrating Jesus’ birth. I love everything that surrounds the Christmas season - the lights, the music, the joy, and the family time.  And I’m excited to see the changes I’ve experienced as I’ve joined the Last 90 Days Challenge that began in October and finish this during the month of December.  I’m seeing great results from putting effort into the five parts of this challenge and I’d encourage you to try one of them - or two - or all five. I’ll post a link about it in case you want to join in for the final month. It’...

S2: E63 Designing Your Conference Experience

Season Two Episode 63 Designing Your Conference Experience I just arrived home on Sunday morning from the AOSA National Conference.  This is the annual Orff conference that is held in a different location in the United States each November.  This year it was in Salt Lake City, Utah. I’ve never been to Utah before and loved being able to go somewhere new.  It was gorgeous! In episode 62 I shared ideas for what to pack?  Essentials to bring to conferences. In this episode I’m going to focus on how to choose sessions within the conference as well as how to find time to experience life outside the convention center and take in some of the sights. Let’s face it - there are so many choices in terms of great sessions to attend during conferences.  It can be difficult to figure out which sessions to go to because they all sound amazing. Here are a few ideas for how to choose which sessions to attend: CHOOSING SESSIONS 1- research the presenter ...

S2: E62 What Should I Pack? Essentials to Bring to Conferences

Season Two Episode 62 What Should I Pack?  Essentials to Bring to Conferences I just arrived home yesterday afternoon from the AOSA National Conference.  This is the annual Orff Approach conference that is held in a different location in the United States each November.  I spent time at the Salt Lake City Convention Center the past three days singing, dancing, playing, creating, and taking in the teaching of some of the best educators (my opinion) in the nation.  Each session had at least one take-away, if not more, for ideas that I could use in my classroom with students. If you just returned from the conference, I’d love to hear what you learned, loved, and how you made the most of your time in Utah.  Share on Instagram and tag me @highafternooti - I’d love to hear from you! Since it’s all fresh in my mind, I thought I’d share several ideas about attending conferences, but as I started getting ideas together I realized that the topic of packing al...
