Last 30ish Days
Hello friends and welcome to Sunday Sip on Afternoon Ti. Each Sunday for the remainder of the year I plan to share a single idea, thought, or meaningful take-away in hopes that you’ll be encouraged and inspired as you prepare to enter the next new week of teaching.
We are heading into the final month of the year. I’m very excited about this for many reasons. One, I love December. I love celebrating Jesus’ birth. I love everything that surrounds the Christmas season - the lights, the music, the joy, and the family time. And I’m excited to see the changes I’ve experienced as I’ve joined the Last 90 Days Challenge that began in October and finish this during the month of December. I’m seeing great results from putting effort into the five parts of this challenge and I’d encourage you to try one of them - or two - or all five. I’ll post a link about it in case you want to join in for the final month. It’s free. It’s fun. And it’s an easy way to finish the year well. In fact there’s nothing you have to join or do except start.
Author Rachel Hollis and her husband Dave started this either last year or the year before to help motivate themselves and help others get motivated to end the year well. No need to wait until January 1st to start making time for healthy habits. There are five parts to the Last 90 Days and they can be modified to fit what works for you. I’ll share each part and how I’ve modified it to work for me in case you find it too much.

1st - Wake up one hour earlier
There are so many reasons to wake up earlier and I’ve begun to see many benefits to doing this. I always said that I wake up too early as it is and I already go to bed at a granny hour (almost always before 9pm every night). I tried to find ways to rush in the morning so that I could get more sleep, but then the mornings felt hurried and if something happened that wasn’t typical then I was rushing even more. Instead of waking up one hour earlier, I have been waking up half an hour earlier consistently. It took a bit of time to get into it and I’ve missed a few days here and there, but this past month I’ve done this almost every morning. And it’s been a game changer. I’ve used the time for things that I’d rushed through and now could give my full attention to. The important part about waking up an hour or half an hour early is to be sure to go to bed at a reasonable hour or a little earlier than you’ve been going to bed if you tend to stay up late.
2nd - Drink half of your body weight in ounces
So if you weigh 100 lbs, drink 50 ounces of water. Simple ways to do this:
- Drink 8-10 ounces between each class… very easy to get this in!
- Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up
- Drink a glass of water as soon as you get home
3rd - Move your body 30 minutes a day
It’s not a matter of the amount of exertion you’re giving or what you’re choosing to do in terms of the type of movement. The goal is to move. Walk your dog. Walk with a friend. Do a workout video - join a class - find a yoga video on youtube. The goal is to move!
4th - Give up one food category you know you shouldn’t be eating
For me this was a no-brainer. Chocolate. And I’m not craving it like I had been! I feel better. I ate it four days out of the last 60 (two days were birthday celebrations and the other two days were just because I really wanted a piece of chocolate so I had one) and enjoyed it a lot, but it feels good to not have it daily.
5th - Write down 10 things you’re grateful for every day
The idea is to write down small things - meaningful simple joys from the day. I revised this and try to write 3 things down each day.
Let’s end the year well friends!
