My 2019 Goals

1.  Publish one episode each week on the Afternoon Ti podcast from January-June and August-December (taking the month of July off)
2.  Complete Kodaly Level III at SMU
3.  Incorporate more movement into my classes at school - at least two classes out of every four classes in each six day rotation in 5th and 6th grade
4.  Present a workshop at GSES and one other location - actually presented three workshops!!
5.  Date night once a month with Jeremy - nope
6.  Invite friends or family over once a month for dinner or lunch - nope
7.  Read, Read, Read -- 52 books was my goal, but I was able to read 33.  Counting that as a win! Continue to read books that I love and keep track of them on goodreads.com

8.  Be more consistent in talking at least every other week with Jeremy about our budget while using the budgeting software - nope
9.  Replace all hand towels and washcloths that have holes
10.  Buy a new iPad case
11.  Add weight training to workouts - at least 2x a week for 10 minutes each time... nope
12.  Go on a run at least once a week and build up to running 3 miles again... do more runs with Riley  (side note:  My goal is to run 500 miles total this year - made it to 329 miles)
13.  Continue to purchase less clothing items and only ones that fit well and that I love... trying Trunk Club for the first time soon and can't wait to see what that's like
14. Continue to locate Jim and make a plan to find him/get him help... and continue to pray every day for him and my cousin Hilary
15.  Use my Simplified Planner by Emily Ley - so excited to try it out this year!  Found that I didn't use it as much as I thought I would or in the ways I expected.


16.  Continue to meet up with the moms from Riley's small group to build friendships and support for
our girls once a month - nope
17.  Call or FaceTime Jon and Allison at least once a week - nope
18.  Go to the dermatologist - yes, but not for an overall appointment
19.  .... To be determined... (was never determined lol)

8Podcast Goal: consistently producing one episode every week on Tuesdays
9Website Goal: Set up a new website
10Financial Goal: Set a clear financial plan for no debt and savings
11Social Media Goal: Go 'live' every Monday on Instagram
12Jim Goal: Consistently pray and pursue reconciliation; healing and health for him
13Leadership: Lead at least 3 workshops for educators this year
14Morning Routine: Continue to wake up at 5:15am each day M-F and spend time with God (prayers/devotional)
15Spiritual: Meet weekly with small group friends
16Summer: Do a women's bible study at church
17Clothing Goal: Get rid of all clothing not worn this year; buy less, but more things I love
18Summer Travel: Set up a trip for Jeremy and I to some capacity - weekend, long weekend, or week or longer
19Planner: Use the Start Today Planner for January-March and then see how it's working for me and how I'm using it
20Complete my Kodály III Certification by turning in videos and reflections and plans

Recorder: What to do with Hot Cross Buns

Hot Cross Buns... it might be the bane of your existence, a song to start with students with B-A-G on the recorders that really doesn't affect you one way or the other, or a great song to use that is simplistic and gets the job done.  No matter what your feeling on it, it's likely that you've used it because it is effective at teaching simple rhythms, B-A-G and giving students a great starting place when learning recorder.  Personally, I find it useful but I'm honestly tired of it.  I decided to do something new with it this summer and wanted to change it so that it was more musical.  For many days of my summer break I spent time in the morning playing the recorder.  I wrote down melodies I had improvised and liked, played with modes and scales, added unpitched percussion parts/piano/guitar chords and enjoyed seeing what could be done.  Not all of the pieces were very good but it was a great creative way to figure out some solutions for recorder pitch sets, rhythms an

S6: E127 Mini Soundtrap Project

 Season 6 Episode 127 Mini Soundtrap Project In the last few episodes I’ve shared some Soundtrap lesson ideas that I created and used with students.  Podcasts, Fictional Character Themes, Found Sounds, and Poem with Loops.  Check out the resources provided for each of these lessons in the show notes or on the blog. Today’s episode is about a simple Soundtrap project that could be done as a collaboration by several students or by an individual in whatever time frame you provide.  The benefit of this lesson is that it’s incredibly flexible.  It could be done in as little as 20 minutes or as much as 45 minutes or more.  The idea is to allow students to create a piece containing a specific amount of loops that includes an introduction and ending.  Like I said super simple.  This might be a great way to introduce students to loops and even form structure depending on how you set up your rubric.   This was a lesson I used while I was out this past week and needed something that a substitu
