Season Two
Episode 73
Highlights from 2019 Podcast Episodes
It has been one year since this podcast went live and I’m incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to share my passion for music education, my passion for health in regards to taking care of ourselves as humans and educators physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and the opportunity to talk with other music educators who have so much to share with all of us. I’ve chosen a few segments from episodes throughout the year!

There are two episodes on health that really inspired me to take care of myself and were encouragements to you as well, based on how many of you listened in! The first was the talk about health with Megan Lyons, owner of the Lyons Share Wellness in Dallas, in season 1 episode 27. So many great tips and ideas from Megan! I love her acronym for clean eating.

Let’s start with my very first interview ever with my friend Vicki Suarez in season one episode 6 on the topic of Songworks. Vicki is a fantastic music educator and had so much to share about the principles within Songworks. Something that was new to me were the ideas of idiographs and song dotting.

In season one episode 17 I had the privilege of talking with educator and author Georgia Newlin about part-singing. She shared so many wonderful insights about how to prepare students for part-singing, the difference between part-work and part-singing, and walking us through the modules that allow our students to build vocabulary, musical understanding, and work towards students singing in parts.

These are only a small group of examples of amazing educators and professionals who took their time to share with us. A comprehensive list of all the podcast episodes will be posted as a link in the show notes so that you can browse the list to find any you may have missed or that you’d like to listen to again.
I’m incredibly excited about Season 3 and all that is lined up! January will be a month of getting back into the school year and I’m really excited for you to hear from music educator and author Kelly Surette about adaptive music education towards the end of the month. Then, starting in February through May, the focus is on specific music education approaches beginning with Orff. The goal is to give you a few episodes about the Orff approach, then the Kodaly approach, then Dalcroze, MLT, and so on so that you can hear more about how these approaches could be used in the classroom. Once we hit summer we will have another health series and then begin with music educator episodes again in the fall!
There are few things in the works behind the scenes that I can’t wait to reveal as the year goes on. What a privilege it has been to learn and grow and I’m so grateful for this past year. Here’s to another great one - Happy New Years!
