Season One
Episode 57
How to Build Your Best Teacher Wardrobe
Many teachers love their jean days. It can be exciting to hear that you've earned a jeans pass, that each Friday will be a teacher spirit day where you wear a school spirit shirt with jeans or that you get to wear jeans with a specific colored shirt in honor of a teammate who is fighting cancer, heart disease or another cause to show support to those around you. Jeans days can be awesome. And the other days can be just as awesome!
Here are a few ideas for how to build a teacher wardrobe that you love!
A. Use what you already have
This might seem obvious, but sometimes we overlook what is right in front of us. Your closet may be very similar to mine - a mix of old and new, favorite pieces you know you won't wear, but can't part with and the clothes that are worn repeatedly. According to www.thecut.com, an interview with the chief design officer for California Closets revealed that we only wear 20% of our wardrobe.
One way to use more of the wardrobe that you already have is to clean out what you don't wear. I have used the KonMari Method for several years and love it! In her book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up," author Marie Kondo shares how to simplify your things until you only keep the things that speak to your heart. My favorite part is how to fold clothing so that you can actually see everything that is in your drawers. I love the look of the drawers and I'm able to identify what each item is very easily.
Another ideas is to use the Stylebook app. I have used this app for a few years and love being able to keep track of what I actually wear and what I have purchased that wasn't a wise purchase.
B. Consider purchasing new pieces
Start with something classic - build a strong base that can be mixed with other items. Some examples: a black dress, blazer, white button up shirt, black pants, and other items that can function in many different ways.
C. Purchase a complete outfit rather than a single piece
If you buy an outfit that is complete, you might be more likely to wear all of the pieces because you'll know how to put them together.
D. Choose clothing that can be washed and dried at home
Decide to buy clothing that is easy to take care of. This will save costs at the dry cleaners, time washing special loads that need specific washing/drying instructions and keeps things simple.
E. Try a personal styling service
There are several options if you're wanting to have items chosen for you that fit your style, to save time looking for specific items in stores and for help putting together pieces. I've used Trunk Club and absolutely love it! If you want to use my stylist, use this link: Trunk Club Referral Link
